time goes by

I’ve had several new ideas for the video blog, some of which I’m working on. I’m hoping to bring some humor and other vegan voices to my channel. I had the idea of interviewing my friends who are vegan or vegetarian since I think it’s important to show the diversity of opinions even among us.

Quite tired right now but have posted in a while. The kitties are lazing around, a moment of silence before they begin their next round of chaos! last night was a veritable orgy of fur covered purring as they decided to descend upon me in my gentle sleep, wakening me with the squirming, pawing, tickling, and suckling (one of the babies likes to suckle my fleece). I’m debating keeping them out of the bedroom tonight, which I only recently reclaimed, mostly to reclaim my sense of sanity and appropriate use of space – I had been sleeping on a futon mattress in the middle of my living room until last week since the kitty-babies came home to stay with me in May.

That said, they have brought so much joy into my life I don’t know what I was doing before!  Even still I am having some mood issues, and seem to have grown some tolerance to my meds.  Having generalized anxiety and sour moods for no known reason … anyway I don’t want to complain about that now, here.

Goodnight!

Gearing up for BSG:The Final Episodes!

funny pictures
moar funny pictures
OK, I know it’s an airplane, but it made me think of the Vipers on Battlestar Gallactica …
Really excited for the Final Episodes, but still doing some catching up online with the most recent episodes.
The “What the Frack is Going on?” video on scifi.com really clears up a lot, and is funny to boot …

No babies kitty

Helllllloooo wide world of blogging. I’ve been guilty of neglecting you for more than two months and now have come to repent!
No babies kitty refers to the fact that I have discovered that my 6 year old cat likes to be carried around inside a hoodie (like a pregnant belly) so that he can be close to my warmth. It really seems to be the only way that he is happy because then he gets a break from following me around everywhere meowing and rolling around the floor provocatively. But there are no babies in there, only kitty!
OK that’s enought sillyness.
Some quick updates on a varity of subjects …
1) Health: was pretty stable until a colon-scope last week, from whcih I am still recovering. I switched to a new pharmaceutical (Lialda) the same as the Asacol, just a higher dose so I only take it twice a day; plus my immuno suppressant was upped to head off any inflammatory reaction I might have from the colonoscopy. Haven’t been able to get a hold of the naturopathic dr and hesitant to see an acupunturist given all the meds I am on.
2) Crafting: I’ll be in my first two craft shows this month selling all kinds of yummy and inedible crochet treats! Cookies, softies, freeform, you can check them all out at my flickr page.
the first one is the and the second is part of a pottery & art show put on by my good friend Natalie.
3) Relationship: The main one being marriage. I’ve taken on being masterful in the art of marriage, and learning as much as I can about what makes this relationship not just work, but flourish. So that is a great inquiry to be in , and any advice you have is welcome on one condition -No cynicism please! That is a really tired conversation – no wonder the divorce rate is so high!
We are moving this month to an airstream on a farm on the edge of town – a dream come true for a couple of DIY vegetarians trying to ‘get off the grid.’ We’ll let you know how it goes!

    Redonkulous

I just have to put a link to this redonkulous website found via CuteOverload.com. Admittedly, I laughed pretty hard at the images at first but . . .
I mean, really, wigs for cats? The photos are fabulous and these domesticated felines don’t seem to mind the attention, but please, DON’T buy one for you cat, even if part of the proceeds go the ASPCA.
    Worth the laugh though.

    The World Peace Diet

My cat Orenji just tried to jump almost 4 feet up onto my lap (I’m sitting on a stool) without realized that there is a glass table between us … a loud crack and then kitty was clinging onto my legs, having made it only halfway to his destination. OW! He seems OK though and is now purring happily as I type … what a weirdo.

So obviously I don’t need to say that the the Wolrd Peace Diet advocated by Dr. Tuttle is vegetarian, but I do ned to tell you that you can go to the website and download a free copy of the entire 330+ page book which presents the most compelling case for ethical vegetarianism. It is well worth the time to read at least some of it and learn something new. do it! I’m thinking of just ordering a bunch of the paper copies to give as gifts .. (shh!)

I’ve added some new links along the side, including a website dedicated to the case for impeachment. Check it out!

I promised a few posts ago to put an excerpt from Is America Necessary? by Jacob Needleman up here, so here it is:

Here lies the secret of America – that is still has a future, that it offers mankind a future. The remnents of other nations and cultures may strike the sense of wonder in us with the greatness of their art and beauty and customs. But in these places we are looking into the past. In America, we are looking into the future – maybe an increasingly threatening future, but still a real one …
If we take America “literally,” if we see around us conformity, corruptions, rank injustice, materialism, superficiality, and vulgarity, metaphysical squalor and blind attachment to physical comfort – if we see only that, we see the death of America and the end of its future. But if we look more deeply, we may still see a nation and people granted for a brief moment the material and spiritual conditions enabling them to step into the real future of man, which is the future of the developing soul.
The future is another word for the soul.

I am a *hopeless* optimist, and I agree with Needleman’s argument here that America’s influence is so great that we have a choice in regards to creating a future using that power – that it IS possible to bring the soul and spirit of America back in order to correct the damage that we’ve done. I’ve never really thought about/articulated “America” in a spriritual sense, but I think this essay captures it for me. “America must give back to the world the main thing it is taking from the world… ” He is calling for America to do some serious soul-searching: “The world had hoped in the outer America while subliminally feeling the resonance of the inner America. But first we who live here must feel it. If Americans themselves do not acknowledge the sould of America, the world may not wish to keep us.”
